Why adopt this animal?

I am concerned that this animal is endangered.

Pledge your eco-action

The northern pacific right whales are endangered, they are being hunted initially for their oil. Other threats are ship strikes and entanglements. Even though the whales are protected by the 1931 convention of whaling, which took affect in 1935, neither Japan & Soviet Union signed this agreement , So they are sort of free to kill there. I would help the whales by cleaning the beaches and protect habitats essential to the survival and recovery of the species.

Cristian Arango

Which animal are you adopting?

Cape Verde Warbler, Acrocephalus brevipennis

24 W

Why adopt this animal?

This species is confined to three small islands where, despite its adaptation to artificial habitats, its population is declining as a result of successive droughts and an increasing human population. Its future on one island, in particular, is precarious. This animal needs my help, I believe that with my contribution, I can make our community realize what an important role this animal plays in the ecosystem.

Pledge your eco-action

As a student in high school, I have continuously tried to show my classmates the importance of our ecosystem through recycling, oral presentations, and daily basis conversations. Successive droughts and an increasing human population have diminished the population of the Cape Verde Warbler. I believe that with information provided to the citizens of the islands that are home to this amazing specie, they will consider helping this species by reducing deforestation. If the information is given to the diplomatic leaders, they will consider advertising through policies and programs the importance of this animal. I have abridged my carbon foot print on planet earth through the purchasing of a hybrid car, but I am planning to reduce my carbon footprint even more by increasing my recycling of goods used. Millions of trees are cut down daily; it is one of the reasons why my animal is in danger of extinction. Reducing the consumption of paper in firms, and increasing recycling will reduce the exploitation in our forests. I plan to major in the study of sustainable urban environments in order to help the ecosystem. Making daily announcement in my school will be the perfect plan of action. It will be just like green week every day. It is time to educate our society. It is time to make those factories stop their release of toxic gases that are killing our homes, our natural resources, and our overall wellbeing. These suggestions might seem too broad, but they guarantee that human race will understand the importance of the environment, the importance of our animals, and the importance of the Cape Verde Warbler.

Why adopt this animal?

Our class is very young (2 years old) and they are usually interested in these types of small animals. We are also learning about the color blue soon and found the animal to be a great way to get inspired by the color blue.

Pledge your eco-action

Our class pledges to be more energy efficient by turning off the lights and water when we are not in the classroom or washing hands.

At Horace O’ Bryant Middle School, we will be writing and illustrating children’s books about endangered species.  When completed, we will take them to a local elementary school to read and share them.  We have endangered species puppets that we will allow the children to play with while we read the stories aloud to them.  By sharing these books, we will be educating children about endangered species and what can be done to save some of these animals.

Why adopt this animal?

Otters are engaging and intelligent animals, and their charm and intelligence would be sorely missed if the world had to go without them. I've seen otters at the Miami Metro Zoo, and they are some of the most inquisitive, playful animals I've ever seen. Their actions remind me of children, and a world without children would be sad indeed.
