FLOR500 Garden 333 Dr. W. W. Yothers, Entomologist (1879–1971) Dr. W. W. Yothers, an entomologist, researched citrus insects in his Orlando laboratory. In 1915 he published the first insect and mite control program for citrus growers in Florida. He discovered a sterilization process of the Mediterranean fruit fly allowing Florida to become the first area in the world to eradicate a fruit fly thus saving the citrus industry. He is included in the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame.
