Ruth Butler: Supporter of the Arts

Ruth Butler dedicated her life to the symphony of her cultural life and her name has become very symbolic of music. In sarasota, she stands as a brilliant and dynamic personality who began the Sarasota Orchestra that still lives to this day. Ruth appreciated and understood the young people and worked with them in schools, church, and especially gave them her knowledge of music that has left a dent in history forever. She directed her own school of music in her home on Bahia Vista Avenue which had 165 pupils enrolled and a faculty of ten instructors. It must be great to wake up every morning and love what you do and that is exactly how Ruth lived. Many people always asked how she accomplished it all because she was part of so many things; Ruth was chairman of Junior Garden Club, member of Sarasota Angler’s Club, PTA President of the Southside Elemenary school and Sarasota high school and many more. Many talented people helped make the Florida West Coast Symphony Orchestra, but Ruth Butler started it all. Being able to meet this woman must have been amazing, it is said that "to have met her is to feel an immediate comprehension of her colorful personality, her great awareness of the worthwhile things in life”. Ruth was very intuitive with the world she lived in, I am sure she died with a smile on her face because she accomplished all her goals in life and had an amazing journey. People like her are the ones that are remembered forever and that is why I am planting this gorgeous garden in her name.,651934 This is the only picture i found of her
