A real estate agent during Sarasota's heyday, Roger flory was more than just a real estate agent, he was a producer of the Sarasota welcome pamphlet. Not only that, he helped found the American legion, and help the Republican party gain traction and support in Sarasota. He was a World War One veteran and received the founders medal on the Armistice day, to further add to the list he also was a lawyer. An exemplary public servant and citizen, he truly gave sarasota a jump board onto greater recognition. He had a law office in Chicago and after going down to Sarasota for a few days and making a large profit from real estate selling he decided that he would live down there permanently and have a hand in the market at its best. The image above is him receiving the Medal, taken with credit from the Herald Tribune.
The garden was planted in my home because in my opinion Roger Flory actions represented catering and improving one's community and home. He stayed and helped form many political organizations to help his fellow community members out, that's why I think it should all start with the home, that's where everyone is formed. Even after the end of the land boom in Sarasota he stayed in the town and supported the tourism industry that was beginning to form by publishing welcome guides that by the years began to get more and more filled with different attractions and area hotels. After serving with the Republican party for those years he later returned to his company to continue his business interests. Basically after finishing his personal matters he turned his attention to the home front and focused on bettering his home. That's why I dedicate it here to my home and as a sign to show that home is where everything starts.
