Developed by Xavier Cortada, director and artist-in-residence of FIU’s College of Architecture + The Arts’ Office of Engaged Creativity, the project commemorates Florida’s quincentenary in 2013.

About the Artist

Susan Strong has been a painter and instructor over 25 years. She taught art and design at North Hennepin Community College in Minneapolis for many years. She now resides in Florida. For the last 10 years she has been studying and creating botanical paintings. 


Artist's Statement

My love of flowers enticed me into the field of botanical illustration. I love recreating my favorite wild flowers, or those plants that I happen to find the fields and gardens nearby my home. Soon I will be starting to paint butterflies.
