FLOR500, Garden 113 Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs, Politician (1855–1898) Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs served in the Florida House of Representatives, and was a member of the 1886 Florida Constitutional Convention. In 1887, he introduced a bill to the Florida Legislature for the establishment of the State Normal College for Colored Students, which eventually became Florida A&M University. He served as the school’s Vice President until his death in 1898.

Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs, Politician

(1855–1898)

Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs served in the Florida House of Representatives, and was a member of the 1886 Florida Constitutional Convention.
