FLOR500, Garden 150 Abbie Brooks, Writer and Historian (1830–1914) Born Abigail Mary Lindley in Pennsylvania, Abbie Brooks made her way to St. Augustine after the Civil War. She traveled the state between 1876 and 1878 and wrote a travel book Petals Plucked from Sunny Climes (published in 1880), under the name of Silvia Sunshine. A student of history, she traveled to Spain to research and transcribe documents held in the archives. She produced a history of St. Augustine in the early 1900s.
