In 1812, he defended the Castillo at St. Augustine against an invasion by American troops from Georgia until reinforcements arrived from Cuba.

Juan Jose de Estrada, Spanish Governor

A native Cuban, Juan Jose de Estrada twice served as interim Governor of Spanish East Florida from 1811 until 1812, and then again from 1815 until 1816.
