FLOR500, Garden 161 George Rainsford Fairbanks, Civic Leader and Historian (1820–1906) Originally from New York, Fairbanks moved to St. Augustine in 1842 to become the superior court clerk. He served as a state senator from 1846 to 1848. Fairbanks was president of the Florida Fruit Exchange. He wrote a Florida history textbook in 1871 that was used for 25 years in the public schools. He served as president of the Florida Historical Society.

George Rainsford Fairbanks, Civic Leader and Historian 

(1820–1906)
