FLOR500, Garden 163 John Preston Hall, Sr., Community Leader (1894–1970) John Preston Hall was born in Green Cove Springs. In 1929, he was elected Clay County sheriff and served in the position for thirty-six years. He was a leader in the Florida Sheriffs’ Association and Florida Sheriffs’ Bureau. Hall founded the Florida Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch for underprivileged youths in 1957. He also served as its first treasurer.
