FLOR500, Garden 187 Bernard Romans, Cartographer (ca. 1720–ca. 1784) Romans was born in Holland and reared in England. He was a surveyor for the British and was assigned to St. Augustine. He produced maps for much of West Florida, including the first maps of Pensacola Harbor and Tampa Bay. His maps were appreciated for their accuracy and level of detail. He recorded his observations in A Concise Natural History of East and West Florida, which was published in 1775, a year after he left Florida.

Bernard Romans, Cartographer

Romans was born in Holland and reared in England. He was a surveyor for the British and was assigned to St. Augustine.
