FLOR500, Garden 189 Augusta Savage, Sculptor (1892–1962) Augusta Savage was born in Green Cove Springs. She lived briefly in Jacksonville, before moving to Harlem in 1921. In New York, she worked as an artist and teacher and later studied in Europe for one year. The inspiration for much of her work came from African American hymns and spirituals.
