An innovation that she introduced involved using helicopters to locate stray cattle. Lockett held offices in both the Highlands County Cattlemen’s Association and the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. In 1948, she became only the third woman elected to the Florida House of Representatives, and was twice re-elected.
