FLOR500, Garden 248 Betty Skelton, Pilot (1926–2011) Pensacola native, Betty June Skelton moved with her family to Tampa as a child. She learned to fly at a young age, and in the 1940s, began stunt flying. She appeared in air shows around Florida. She achieved numerous records and championships in both the air and on land test driving cars for Chrysler and General Motors. In 2001, Skelton became the first woman inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame and Motorsports Hall of Fame.
