FLOR500, Garden 249 Chesterfield Harvey Smith, World War II Officer, Attorney (1917–2003) Chesterfield Smith was born and grew up in Arcadia, Florida. He served in the Florida National Guard and rose to the rank of major during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart. He became a founding member of the future law firm Holland & Knight. Smith was well known as president of the American Bar Association for his statement chastising President Nixon during the Watergate scandal that "no man is above the law."
