FLOR500, Garden 251 Dr. Ossian Sweet, Physician (1895–1960) A native of Bartow, Dr. Ossian Sweet, was at the center of a significant legal case in Detroit in 1925. He had purchased a home in a white neighborhood. When a mob threatened his family, a shot fired from the home killed a man. Sweet and his brother were represented in a murder trial by famed lawyer Clarence Darrow, who was retained by the NAACP. Sweet was acquitted and was buried in Bartow after his death in 1960.

Dr. Ossian Sweet, Physician
