FLOR500, Garden 253 Park Monroe Trammel, Governor (1876–1936) Park Trammell settled in Lakeland after seeing the area during service in the Spanish American War. A citrus grower and newspaper editor, Trammell began a long and distinguished career in politics as mayor of Lakeland in 1899. He was elected to the Florida House in 1902, State Senate in 1904, and became Florida Attorney General in 1909. Trammel served as governor from 1913 to 1917. He was elected to the U.S. Senate, serving from 1917 until his death in office in 1936.

Park Trammell settled in Lakeland after seeing the area during service in the Spanish American War. A citrus grower and newspaper editor, Trammell began a long and distinguished career in politics as mayor of Lakeland in 1899.
