FLOR500, Garden 291 Elizabeth McCullough Johnson, Politician (1909–1973) After serving four years in the Florida House of Representatives, Beth Johnson became the first woman elected to the Florida Senate. Prior to her elections to the House (1958) and Senate (1962), McCullough was active in the League of Women’s Voters. While in office she championed for the establishment of the University of Central Florida. She was posthumously inducted into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame in 1986.
