FLOR500, Garden 35 Adam J. Gerlach, Early Settler, Businessman (1846–1920) Adam Gerlach was born in Indiana, and came to Fort Walton Beach with his family in 1912. In 1913, he and his daughter and son-in law purchased the Gulfview Hotel. They expanded their operations to include a mercantile store, and built what is now known as the Staff Restaurant as storage for the vehicles of hotel guests. Gerlach helped establish St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the first Catholic Church in Camp Walton.
