She was one of six musical sisters, raised by devout Baptists who expected them to perform hymns and gospel songs. However, the sisters, when away from their parents, played house parties as well. They later accompanied well-known performers Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey. Ida Goodson played piano for silent movies at clubs and dance halls. She continued to play piano at Pensacola’s’ Mount Olive Baptist Church until her death in 2000.
