FLOR500, Garden 39 Modeste Hargis, Pharmacist (1875–1948) Modeste Hargis was at the top of her pharmacy class and in 1893, she became the first woman to pass Florida’s State Board of Pharmacy. She enjoyed a long career as a pharmacist in Pensacola, practicing until about 1930.
