In 1922, she and her husband bought the Brooks Hotel (renamed the Miramar). She helped organize the Women’s Club in 1921, and the Gulf Area Garden Club, and worked to establish the Fort Walton Library. She donated land for a local community center and recreational facilities, and was the first woman on the City Council.
