Lazarus, Engineer, Museum Founder (1911–1965) William Lazarus was a pilot, aeronautics instructor and research engineer and served as Aviation Supervisor of the Florida State Improvement Commission. He retired in 1965 as Chief Scientific Advisor to the Air Proving Grounds Center (now Eglin Air Force Base). In his retirement he worked to plan, design, and construct the first Indian Temple Mound Museum in Fort Walton Beach. The efforts of William and his wife, Yulee, in archaeological research resulted in hundreds of identified archaeological sites in the Panhandle of Florida.

William C. Lazarus, Engineer, Museum Founder
