FLOR500, Garden 69 James E. Plew, Businessman (1864–1938) James Ellesworth Plew, originally from Illinois, received a medical degree in 1885. He was a businessman, inventor, and aviation enthusiast. In 1922, he settled in Valparaiso and built an inn, a golf course, a bank, and a winery. In 1933, he built two runways on his land and named them the Valparaiso Airport. In 1934, he donated land to the U.S. government for a bombing and gunnery range. The range became Eglin Air Force Base.
