FLOR500, Garden 72 Chester Pruitt, Police Officer (1917–1968) Pruitt was the first African American police officer in Fort Walton Beach. He joined the force in 1948 and served through the 1960s. He was a mediator on many difficult issues, especially those concerned with the city’s youth. A neighborhood center and park are named in his honor.
