FLOR500, Garden 79 Robert Lee Fulton Sikes, Politician (1906–1994) Sikes received a Masters degree from the University of Florida in 1929. He operated a publishing business in Crestview, and served in the Florida Legislature from 1936 to 1940. Sikes was a U.S. representative from 1941 to 1944 when he resigned to enter the Army during World War II. His representation was crucial to the development of Eglin Field as an Army Air Force test facility. After the war, the man known as the “He-Coon,” returned to Congress, remaining until 1979.
