He began collecting at a young age, a hobby that continued his entire life. He was a founding member of the Pensacola Historical Society, and started the first museum in Pensacola in the Dorothy Walton House in the 1930s. The gift of his massive collection in 1983 resulted in the formation of the T. T. Wentworth, Jr., Florida State Museum.
