Lawrence Bernard Brown, Businessman (1856–1941) Lawrence B. Brown was born in Wacahoota, near Gainesville. His father was a plantation minister. After slavery, the Brown family moved to Volusia County. Brown acquired much property on which he constructed homes that he sold or rented to others.
