Bill France, Sr., Racing Pioneer (1908–1992) "Big Bill's" family moved to Daytona Beach in 1935 from Washington, D.C. to escape the Great Depression. France worked numerous jobs until founding a car repair shop on Main Street. He was also a race car driver. He turned his passion into the Daytona Beach International Speedway and founded NASCAR in 1948. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1990. FLOR500, Garden 320
