Bill France, Sr., Racing Pioneer (1908–1992) "Big Bill's" family moved to Daytona Beach in 1935 from Washington, D.C. to escape the Great Depression. France worked numerous jobs until founding a car repair shop on Main Street. He was also a race car driver.
