Waldo Sexton, Tourism Promoter (1885–1967) Called an “imaginative entrepreneur” and an “outrageous, old-time eccentric,” Waldo came to the area as a salesman with the Indian River Farms Land Development Company in 1914. He was involved in creating the McKee Jungle Gardens, an early tourist attraction. He also promoted and developed “a resort image” for Vero Beach with the unique architectural style of his Driftwood Inn, Ocean Grill, and Patio Restaurant.
