FLOR500, Garden 386 Carrie Abbe, Postmistress (1857–1940) Appointed postmistress of Sarasota in 1891, Carrie Abbe served in that position until she resigned in 1922. She was of invaluable service to the fledgling community, helping with various civic projects including the Woman’s Club. When she died it was said, “When the history of Sarasota is written there is no person who will stand out more prominently in its pioneer days that this dearly loved woman.”
