FLOR500, Garden 390 Josie Billie, Seminole Medicine Man (1887–1980) Josie Billie was a well-respected medicine man who converted to Christianity. He bridged another gap by serving as an informant for William Sturtevant (of the Smithsonian Institution) because of his knowledge of English and his willingness to share information about the Seminole Tribe. This relationship insured that Sturtevant’s published work contained a wealth of correct cultural information that survives to the present day.
