FLOR500, Garden 405 Josephine Cortes, Publisher (1912–1992) Josephine Cortes founded, edited, and published the Englewood Herald from September 1955 to 1957. Later Cortes wrote articles about Englewood for other newspapers. Cortes and her committee obtained the first funds ever allocated for public library use by the Sarasota County Commission. This was the beginning of the county’s library system. She published the History of Englewood based on Florence Johnson’s manuscript and It Happened in Englewood.
