Thomas Moore Rickards, Land Developer (1845–1928) Boca Raton’s first settler and a civil engineer, he purchased land on the Hillsborough River and the north shore of Lake Boca Raton. The Florida East Coast Railway hired him to promote the area to farmers who would ship crops on the FEC.
