About the Artist

Maria Rogal is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Florida. She created the Design for Development (D4D) initiative in which graphic design students and faculty work with artisans, farmers, and organizers in southern Mexican Maya communities to explore ways design can foster local development projects.

Artist Statement

The Jack-in-the-pulpit is so visually engaging, delightful, sensual, and strong. How to depict it was a challenge. I elected to simplify its presentation to highlight its form and patterning which are so distinct.
