About the artist

Justine L Vaughen, M.D.: For nearly 50 years I have practiced Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Hospital, the Veteran's Hospital and in private practice.. Essentially retired now, I may devote more time to exploring and expressing these wonders, and helping support Altrusa House with proceeds from the sale of my photography.

Artist’s Statement:

I have always been intrigued by the beauty and symmetry of inner architecture, in flowers and other small things. The ingenious way these natural elements work together is a continuing source of inspiration. Through photography I am trying to communicate to others that sense of wonder.

FLOR500 is a participatory art, nature, and history project that marks the importance of the moment when the history of Florida changed forever and gives a glimpse of what its landscape was like 500 years ago. Developed by Xavier Cortada, director and artist-in-residence of FIU’s College of Architecture + The Arts’ Office of Engaged Creativity, the project commemorates Florida’s quincentenary in 2013.
