FLOR500, Garden 102 Dr. J. Broward Culpepper, Educator (1907–1991) Dr. Culpepper was born in Perry, Florida. He received a Ph.D. from Columbia University and pursued a career in Education. He was principal of Leon High School in Tallahassee, and then became Dean of Men at Florida State University. Dr. Culpepper served on the Board of Control, later the Board of Regents, and was the first Chancellor of Florida’s State University system, creating the University of West Florida, University of South Florida, and Florida Atlantic University.
