< previous | next >
The Florencia Family, Spanish Officials of Apalachee Province (1600s) Juan Fernandez de Florencia served as deputy governor of Apalachee Province in the 1670s. He was the son of Claudio Luis de Florencia, the first deputy governor, killed in a 1647 Apalachee Indian rebellion. Juan Fernandez remained in the area after his term ended, and established a ranch. His brother, Pedro, was an interpreter of the Apalachee language. Pedro’s daughter, Juana Cathalina, married Jacinto Roque Pérez who served as deputy governor and owned a ranch in Apalachee. Pedro’s son, Diego, was a rancher and ship owner. Another of Pedro’s sons, Claudio, became a friar at Mission San Luis.
