Frank M. Button, Architect
(1866–1938)
The City of Coral
Gables’ first landscape architect, Frank Button, laid out spacious drives,
bridle paths, golf courses and entrances in accordance with the Garden City
Movement. He envisioned a suburban landscape of nine-tenths native plants and
one-tenth exotic plants, although time has reversed the proportions. His work
contributed to the creation of one of the nation’s first planned communities
and one of Florida’s most beautiful cities.
