FLOR500, Garden 50 Yulee Way Lazarus, Museum Founder, Curator (1914–2005) Yulee Lazarus graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1936 with a degree in history. She and her husband, William, became avocational archaeologists, studying hundreds of sites in the Florida Panhandle. After William died she set out to complete the work he had started to secure a museum in the City of Fort Walton Beach. The museum opened in 1972 as the first municipally owned museum in the state. She served as its first curator and remained until her retirement in 1985
