FLOR500, Garden 53 Addie Rushton Lewis, Educator (1901–2002) Addie Ella Rushton was born in Alabama, and came to Valparaiso in 1923. By 1931 she was teaching in Okaloosa County schools. In the 1950s, she became the principal of Niceville School, and in 1968, she became the first female assistant superintendent for instruction in Okaloosa County. Addie Lewis was a dedicated educator in Okaloosa County for more than forty years. She also served on the Valparaiso City Council. Lewis Middle School was named in her honor.
