FLOR500, Garden 73 Sarah Frances Brooks Pryor, Educator, Community Activist (1877–1972) Sarah Brooks Pryor was the first female child born in Brooks Landing (Fort Walton Beach). She taught school in Mary Esther, and served as the local postmistress for 25 years. She also founded the Woman’s Club of Fort Walton Beach. As club president she worked for civic improvements such as mosquito and garbage control, and the area’s first library and medical facilities. Her other activities included the preservation of local Indian mounds and beautifying roadways.
