FLOR500, Garden 77 Salvador Ruby, Soldier, Businessman (1765–?) A free Louisiana Creole who joined the Spanish army of General Bernardo de Gálvez, Salvador Ruby fought in the Battle of Pensacola in 1781. He later became a shoe maker in Pensacola, as well as the commander of an urban brigade of mulatto and black militia.
